Assam now an international tourist destination after Post Malone event: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has described American rapper and singer Post Malone’s performance in Guwahati as a “historic occasion” that places the city firmly on the global entertainment map.

The concert, held on December 8, drew visitors from several countries, which the Chief Minister said was a proud moment for Assam.

Speaking to media persons, Sarma said that people from London, the United States, Europe and France had travelled to Guwahati to attend the event. “For the first time in the history of Assam, people from across the world came here to watch a show. It is a proud moment for Assam that our state has now become an international tourist destination,” he said.

The Chief Minister noted that many tourists who arrived for the concert would stay in the state for the next four to five days, creating economic activity. He said the event would have a positive tourism and hospitality impact, particularly for local businesses.

Calling Post Malone a global music icon and Grammy-nominated artist, Sarma said that his presence in Guwahati signalled a significant shift in the region’s entertainment profile. “Post Malone’s performance will put Guwahati firmly on the world entertainment map,” he remarked.

Sarma further expressed hope that similar large-scale concerts could be held in Silchar and Jorhat in the future, saying that such events would help boost the economies of those regions as well.

The concert, one of the largest international music events hosted in Assam, continues to generate public debate, but the Chief Minister reiterated that its benefits will be felt beyond entertainment, with heightened global attention and increased tourist inflow.
