Assam: Opposition MP candidate Lurinjyoti Gogoi rallies support against CAA in Margherita

Opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), Lurinjyoti Gogoi, the candidate for the 13th Dibrugarh Lok Sabha HPC and president of Asom Jatiyo Parishad, garnered support during a gathering at Changlang Tiniali Auditorium in Margherita on Sunday.

Over 500 members and leaders of Asom Jatiyo Parishad convened for an organizational meeting to welcome Gogoi. Addressing the crowd, Gogoi stated the significance of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, framing it as a crucial battle to safeguard democracy, the constitution, culture, tradition, land and language of Assam.

Highlighting the contentious nature of the CAA, Gogoi  criticized the BJP-led government, both at the union and state levels for imposing what he described as a "draconian law." He asserted that the CAA poses a severe threat to the fabric of Assam affecting people from all walks of life regardless of caste, creed, race, language, or religion.

Speaking on the performance of incumbent MP and Union Minister Rameswar Teli, Gogoi accused him of neglecting the needs of the 83 no. Margherita Constituency. Consequently, Teli was denied a ticket, with Sarbananda Sonowal, the Chief Minister of Assam, receiving the nomination instead.

Turning his attention to the local concerns, Gogoi lamented the mismanagement of natural resources under the BJP government's tenure. He criticized the rampant illegal coal mining that has plagued the region, resulting in the deterioration of once-thriving industries such as tea estates and the Namrup fertilizer plant.

Stating the urgency of the situation, Gogoi urged voters to be vigilant and thoughtful while casting their ballots in the upcoming election. He asserted that the fate of Assam and the country hinges on the choices made at the polls, particularly in light of the ongoing challenges posed by the CAA.
