Assam: Over 1 lakh earthen lamps lit in Golaghat to greet PM Modi's arrival

More than 1 lakh earthen lamps illuminated the night sky in Golaghat, Assam, as the locals extended a heartfelt welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the region. The flickering lights adorned the landscape, symbolizing the spirit of unity and anticipation ahead of the Prime Minister's two-day-long visit to Assam.

Prime Minister Modi's itinerary for the visit encompasses a series of significant events and inaugurations aimed at bolstering the developmental landscape of the state. Scheduled to commence this afternoon, the Prime Minister will embark on his journey with an inauguration ceremony, dedicating, and laying foundation stones for projects worth a staggering 18,000 crore rupees from Jorhat.

Upon arrival at Tezpur Airport in Sonitpur district, slated for approximately 4 pm, Prime Minister Modi will proceed directly to the illustrious Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Opting to spend the night amidst the wilderness, the Prime Minister will lodge at the Assam Police Guest House located within the Kohora Range of the National Park.

The dawn of the following day will witness Prime Minister Modi embarking on a safari within the park's confines before departing for Arunachal Pradesh to partake in scheduled events.

Among the highlights of the Prime Minister's engagements is the inauguration of an 84-foot-high statue commemorating the legendary Ahom warrior, Lachit Borphukan, at Hollonga Pathar in Jorhat. Subsequently, a public address at Meleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat will provide a platform for the Prime Minister to connect with the masses.

Moreover, through virtual means, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital, a Child Care Unit at B. Baruah Cancer Institute in Guwahati, the Barauni to Guwahati natural gas pipeline, and two crude oil pumping stations of Oil India Limited. Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone for the Sivasagar Medical College and Hospital, the Guwahati and Digboi Refinery expansion projects, including IOCL’s Bethkuchi Terminal in Guwahati.

The Prime Minister's commitment to infrastructure development will be further emphasized through the virtual dedication of the doubling of railway lines from Dhupdhara to Chaygaon and New Bongaigaon to Sarbhog. Notably, he will also officiate the 'Griha Pravesh' ceremony for over 5 lakh 50 thousand homes constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
