Assam pride! Bargolai youth commissioned as Lieutenant in Indian Army

A youth from the remote village of Bargolai under the 83rd Margherita constituency has achieved what many only dream of — being commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army.

Sahadev Chetry, son of Deo Bahadur Chetry and Lakshmi Chetry of Netaji Line, Bargolai, was formally inducted as an officer on June 14 during the prestigious Passing Out Parade at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun.

The achievement marks a milestone not just for the Chetry family but for the entire Margherita region, as Sahadev becomes the first from his village to earn such a distinguished rank in the Indian Armed Forces.

A meritorious student from childhood, Sahadev studied at Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya (NEC), Bargolai, and joined the Indian Army in 2017. His path to officerhood was anything but easy — clearing the tough SSB interview on his third attempt with flying colors, he proved his grit and determination.

Upon returning home, Sahadev received a hero’s welcome, greeted with phoolam gamoshas and heartfelt celebrations from family and fellow villagers alike. Locals described his commissioning as an “inspiration for the youth of the region,” a beacon of hope from the coal belt of Assam to the corridors of military leadership.

Speaking to the media, Sahadev expressed deep pride in fulfilling his lifelong dream. “Since childhood, I had one aim — to wear the uniform and serve the nation. Today, I feel proud and grateful.”

His journey from a remote village in Assam to the Indian Military Academy stands as a testament to perseverance, patriotism, and the unyielding spirit of the youth from India’s hinterlands.
