Assam: Protest breaks out after factory manager allegedly assaults tea worker

A tense situation unfolded at the Salonah tea estate in Kaliabor, where workers staged a protest in front of the director's office.

"The factory manager physically assaulted one worker while on duty. Without any reason, he got beaten up and that's why we are staging a protest here. We demand the accused should get proper punishment", one protester said while talking to reporters on March 20.

The uproar was a result of alleged misbehavior by the mill house manager towards a labourer. The police were called in to manage the situation and were successful in restoring calm.

The sub-divisional police officer of Kaliabor was present at the spot. The workers demanded the arrest of the mill house manager.

In response to this, the police arrested Shubham Parmar, the director of the mill house.
