Assam: Public health workers stage massive protest, demand job regularization

The Assam Public Health Temporary Workers' Council escalated its ongoing agitation, staging a large-scale protest in front of the District Public Health Engineering Department's office on Monday, January 6.

The demonstration comes in response to show-cause notices issued to many workers by departmental authorities, despite their strike, which has been ongoing since December 3.

Hundreds of men and women gathered at the protest site, chanting slogans and demanding immediate job regularization and comprehensive benefits for temporary employees.

A protestor highlighted the dire conditions faced by workers, stating, "Recently, a 'Jalamitra' (water worker) lost his life while on duty in Golaghat district. Many such workers have also passed away post-retirement, yet their families have not received any government assistance."

The council members cautioned that failure to address their grievances could lead to a further intensification of the agitation, potentially worsening the situation in the coming days.
