A group of tourists from West Bengal had a close call on March 7 when their safari jeep was charged by an adult rhinoceros in Manas National Park. The incident, which unfolded in the Bahbari range of the park, saw the rhino chase the jeep for over a kilometer before the driver managed to escape.
The incident, while fortunately not resulting in any injuries, highlights the potential risks associated with wildlife encounters and the importance of following park regulations. Reports indicate that the tourists were on a routine safari when the rhino, for reasons unknown, charged towards their jeep. The driver, reacting swiftly, accelerated the vehicle in an attempt to outrun the animal. The chase continued for a distance of over a kilometer before the rhino eventually stopped its pursuit and returned to the forest.
This is not the first time an incident of this nature has been reported from Manas National Park. There have been several prior instances of rhinos approaching or chasing safari vehicles in the past. This recurring theme raises concerns about potential shortcomings in park management or tourist behavior that might be contributing to these encounters.
