Assam: Rs 36 lakh worth stolen HUL goods recovered in Chirang, three held
Chirang police recovered Hindustan Unilever (HUL) products worth approximately Rs 36 lakh, which had been mysteriously stolen from a truck en route from Kolkata to Guwahati.
The incident involved a 10-wheeler truck bearing registration number AS 01 NC 3091.
The stolen consignment was traced to the residence of one Saumkhou Basumatari in Thaisobari under Runikhata area, located near the Indo-Bhutan border in Chirang district.
Acting on a complaint lodged by the truck owner regarding the suspicious theft, Runikhata Police launched an investigation.

Two drivers of the truck—Rupchand Ali (38) and Imamul Haque (32)—were arrested during the probe. Their interrogation led police to the location where the stolen goods were hidden.
Subsequently, police raided the house of Saumkhou Basumatari and recovered the entire stolen consignment of HUL cosmetic and personal care products. Basumatari has also been arrested in connection with the case.
The incident has raised concerns about organized theft along transit routes and highlights the vigilance of Chirang Police in swiftly recovering high-value stolen goods.
Further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the racket.
