Assam: SBI official accused of siphoning off customer funds worth Rs 2.5 crore

Serious financial discrepancies have been reported at the Customer Service Point (CSP) of the State Bank of India (SBI) located at Lengtisinga in Assam's Bongaigaon district, sources said on March 22.

The director of the CSP, Hanif Ali, is accused of illicitly siphoning off customers' funds, amounting to around Rs 2-2.5 crore.

Customers such as Ainal, Abul, and Swahnaz, who had deposited their hard-earned money in the CSP, are among the victims. Instead of maintaining a digital record, Ali allegedly noted the deposit amounts in passbooks manually.

He is suspected to have vanished after misappropriating around Rs 2,20,50,000 from one customer and a deposit of Rs 50,000 from another.

Customers have been gathering at the CSP for the past week, only to return disheartened each evening. The loss of their savings has left them in a state of despair.
