Assam: Sipajhar students protest over change in scooty scheme eligibility

A group of students staged a protest in Sipajhar demanding the continuation of the Pragyan Bharati scheme in its earlier format after the state government revised the eligibility criteria for receiving scooties under the scheme.

As per the new announcement, only students who secured 80% or above in their Higher Secondary examinations are eligible for the benefit. Previously, students scoring 60% and above were entitled to receive scooties.

Disappointed by the new rule, the protesting students have appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to uphold the earlier decision.

Chanting slogans like "We want scooties," "We want justice," and "Restore the Pragyan Bharati scheme," the students made their voices heard loud and clear in the streets of Sipajhar.

The protest reflects growing discontent among students who feel left behind due to the sudden change in eligibility criteria.
