In what seems straight out of a Bollywood film, a heartwarming love story has unfolded in Pathsala, Assam — a story of unconditional love, resilience, and humanity.
Richa Kalita, a meritorious student from Pathsala who has been unable to walk since birth, met Shubham Shukla, a young man from Mumbai who used to earn his living by singing on the streets to care for his ailing mother.
The two connected through the Star Maker app, where Richa came to know of Shubham’s music.
As time passed, their bond deepened into love. Shubham’s mother, diagnosed with a serious illness, had one final wish — to see her son married to Richa.
Respecting her dying wish, Shubham left everything behind in Mumbai and travelled to Doloigaon in Pathsala. There, the two got married at a local temple.
A month after the marriage, Shubham’s mother passed away. Since then, he has sold their home in Mumbai and moved permanently to Pathsala, where the couple now lives in a rented house. He takes care of Richa like a devoted partner and caregiver, helping with household chores, cooking together, and even ensuring she continues her higher education at Bhattadev University.

Once earning Rs 700–Rs 800 a day by singing on the streets of Mumbai, Shubham has now bought a small piece of land in Pathsala with whatever savings he had left.
Despite financial hardships, the couple continues their journey with strength and determination.
Richa, who cannot walk, was once carried from her rickshaw to the classroom by her teachers at Krishna Kanta Handique College. Her academic excellence and courage have inspired many.
This story is a rare example of true love and compassion — a reminder that real love and humanity are still alive in the world.
