Assam: Srimanta Sankardev Sangha files complaint against Tai Ahom Youth Parishad

The Srimanta Sankardev Sangha Margherita sub-divisional committee has filed a formal complaint against the Tai Ahom Youth Parishad, Assam (TAYPA) at the Margherita Police Station.

This action follows the alleged burning of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha’s constitution by the Tai-Ahom central committee, which has triggered widespread protests.

More than 100 members of the Margherita District Committee of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha were present at the police station to lodge the complaint. The organization has strongly condemned the act and has called for immediate action against those responsible.

The controversy stems from a prior incident involving a Srimanta Sankardev Sangha member, Chandra Baruah from Gohpur, who participated in the Tai-Ahom community’s religious festival, Me-Dam Me-Phi.

Following this, the Sangha had taken disciplinary action against Baruah, a move that seemingly led to the constitution-burning incident.

Denouncing the act as an attack on their principles and values, the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha has demanded strict administrative action against the leaders of TAYPA involved in the incident.

The organization has urged authorities to ensure justice and uphold the integrity of the Sangha’s constitution.
