A road accident on National Highway 27 claimed the life of a truck driver in Dima Hasao district on Monday.
The mishap occurred at Didaodip under the jurisdiction of Maibang police station when a truck, bearing registration number AS 01RC 7588, lost control and rammed into the road divider before crashing.
According to police sources, the heavy vehicle was moving along the busy highway when the driver reportedly lost control, leading to the fatal collision.
The impact was so severe that the truck was badly damaged and the driver, identified as Mukunda Rabha, died on the spot. Rabha, a resident of Mogho Salpara in Goalpara district, was reportedly travelling alone in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Local police personnel from Maibang immediately rushed to the site and carried out rescue operations. The body of the deceased driver was later sent for post-mortem examination, while efforts are underway to clear the wreckage from the highway to ensure smooth traffic movement.
The accident has once again raised concerns over road safety on NH-27, which witnesses heavy movement of commercial vehicles and has been prone to frequent mishaps in recent years.
