Assam: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually inaugurates FM Transmitter in Kokrajhar

The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) welcomed the New Year with a significant advancement in communication infrastructure as Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, virtually inaugurated a 10-kilowatt FM transmitter of All India Radio (AIR) in Kokrajhar today.

 The initiative marks a new chapter in radio broadcasting for the region, promising enhanced connectivity and access to information.

The virtual inauguration took place during a ceremony held in Guwahati. In his address, Minister Vaishnaw underscored the government’s commitment to strengthening communication and broadcasting infrastructure in remote areas. He highlighted the FM transmitter as a crucial step toward ensuring the seamless dissemination of news, educational content, and entertainment, particularly for the people of Kokrajhar and the surrounding areas.

To commemorate the launch, a special event was organized locally at the auditorium of Kokrajhar Science College. 

The occasion was graced by several notable dignitaries, including Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Pramod Boro, Kokrajhar Member of Parliament Jayanta Basumatary, and Rajya Sabha Member Rwngwra Narzary.

Addressing the gathering, BTR Chief Pramod Boro expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Central government for prioritizing the region’s development. He emphasized the transmitter’s role in bridging communication gaps between the government and citizens while also fostering the preservation and promotion of Bodo culture and traditions.

“This FM transmitter will bring the voice of All India Radio closer to the people, creating a platform for information, education, and cultural exchange. It symbolizes a step forward in integrating Kokrajhar into the broader communication network of the nation,” Boro stated.

The new FM transmitter promises to deliver high-quality radio services, providing clear and reliable broadcasts of news, educational programs, and entertainment. Its reach will cover Kokrajhar and neighbouring areas, significantly benefiting local communities by offering them a vital source of information and a medium to connect with the rest of the country.

This development aligns with the Central government’s broader vision of enhancing communication networks across underserved regions and empowering local communities through accessible and reliable media platforms. 

The 10-kilowatt FM transmitter is expected to become a cornerstone of radio broadcasting in Kokrajhar, fostering greater inclusivity and connectivity in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
