Assam: Uproar in Margherita hospital over death of unborn child, family alleges medical negligence

A family in Margherita has accused a doctor of causing the death of an unborn child due to alleged medical negligence.

The incident took place when a pregnant woman, admitted to the Margerita Civil Hospital, lost her baby before birth. The family alleges that the doctor’s negligence led to the infant’s death.

Margerita residents are now being warned to exercise caution when consulting doctors, especially if they have pregnant women at home. They are urged to think twice before seeking medical treatment to avoid such heart-wrenching consequences.

The incident occurred when a woman, Kulsuma Khatun, was admitted to the Margerita Civil Hospital on a Monday evening. Dr. S. Alam, a doctor at the hospital, reportedly advised her family to transfer her to a private nursing home.

When Kulsuma's condition worsened, Dr. Alam suggested transferring her to Dibrugarh for further treatment. However, the family took her to another nursing home in the area, where the life of the pregnant woman was saved, but the unborn child unfortunately did not survive.

The family has raised serious allegations against the hospital, claiming that the child had already died in the womb before Kulsuma was admitted to the hospital. They also accused Dr. Alam of neglect, stating that he had been treating Kulsuma throughout her pregnancy. As a result, the family has filed a formal complaint with the Margherita Police Station, seeking justice for the death of the child.

The family has demanded severe punishment for Dr. Alam.
