Assam: Wild elephants destroy homes and farms in Sonitpur's Helem

Several families in Mailbazar, Helem woke up to the devastation caused by a herd of wild elephants last night. Residences were destroyed and farms were laid to waste as the elephants, numbering between 15 to 20, ran amok in search of food.

The villages affected included Mail Bazaars and Telenis, among others. Prominent citizens like Nanda Pradhan, Tonk Bahadur Pradhan, Sanjay Pradhan, and Nand Hazarika were among those whose homes were vandalised by the elephants.

There was also significant damage to paddy and rice crops. The victims of this incident have demanded compensation from the forest department, people's representatives, and the government.

They have also threatened to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha elections if their demands are not met.
