Guwahati witnessed high political tensions today as Assam Pradesh Youth Congress President Zubair Anam was placed under house arrest by the police just before he was scheduled to participate in a protest organized by the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Committee.
The police action provoked strong reactions from Youth Congress workers, who launched a massive demonstration in Panjabari.
Agitated party members blocked the stretch between Six Mile and Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, causing significant traffic disruptions. Protestors vociferously condemned Anam’s house arrest, demanding his immediate release.
The situation further escalated as clashes erupted between the demonstrators and law enforcement officials, intensifying unrest in the area. The Youth Congress has strongly criticized the government, alleging that the use of force to prevent democratic protests reflects an attempt to suppress dissent.
