In a moment of immense pride for Assam and the entire Northeast, Himani Gurung, a brilliant student from the remote Pawoi Bongai village near Digboi, has been selected to participate in a prestigious workshop related to India’s first solar mission, ADITYA-L1, initiated by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Himani, daughter of Rudra Bahadur Gurung—a humble farmer—hails from one of the most underdeveloped regions in the state. Despite all odds, she has shown extraordinary academic promise and determination.
Fuelled by her childhood dream of becoming a scientist, Himani stood third in Physics during her undergraduate studies under Dibrugarh University and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Applied Physics and Astrophysics at Tezpur University.

She has been invited to participate in a national-level workshop scheduled from August 20 to 22 at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) under the University of Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram.
The workshop will focus on data analysis from ADITYA-L1 and explore the outer layers of the Sun and solar environment modeling. Himani's selection has brought immense joy to her parents, relatives, and the entire Tinsukia district, marking her as a beacon of hope and inspiration for students across Assam and the region.
