“Assam’s Kanchenjunga”: Rahul Gandhi pays heartfelt tribute to Zubeen Garg in Guwahati

Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi visited the residence of late singer Zubeen Garg in Guwahati to pay his respects and address the media, emphasising the need for a transparent investigation into the circumstances of his death.

Expressing his grief, Gandhi said, “It’s very sad for me to come here under these circumstances. I would have liked to visit under happier conditions.” Drawing a personal connection, he recalled his mountaineering days in Sikkim and compared Zubeen Garg to Mount Kanchenjunga, describing him as “honest, transparent, unshakable, and beautiful,” qualities that reflected his life and legacy.

Highlighting Garg’s humility despite his success, Gandhi said, “You can see the worth of a person in their house. Zubeen had wealth, success, and humility, something Assam should be extremely proud of.” He commended Garg’s family for their role in nurturing his talent and giving a voice to Assam.

Gandhi stressed the need for closure for the singer’s family and the people of Assam. “The family has lost Zubeen and all they want is the truth to be clear. The people of Assam want to know what happened because they want closure,” he said.

Calling for urgent action, he urged the government to conduct a quick and transparent investigation and ensure the family receives clarity about the incident in Singapore. Gandhi reaffirmed the Congress party’s support for the family and extended condolences to the people of Assam, acknowledging the widespread grief caused by the singer’s untimely death.

Concluding his address, Gandhi said, “We love Zubeen Garg, we want to honour him, but first we want transparency and justice. What happened in Singapore, everybody in Assam should know, and the sooner it happens, the better it is.”
