Batter Opportunity: Assam's Mechanical Engineer journey from office to 'Engineer Ka Idli Dosa' stand

Despite having a diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Madhab Rao, a resident of the Margherita subdivision, has been selling Idli Dosa for the past four years.

Rao, who achieved first-division marks in his HSLC examination from Vivekananda Vidyalaya Bargolai in 2012, and graduated first class in Mechanical Engineering in 2016 from the Swami Vivekananda School of Engineering and Technology, Orissa, initially worked for various private firms.

Speaking to India Today NE, "I have been running this business for the past 4 years. As you know there is not much scope in the private sector with less salary and in the government sector I am trying but for that you also need time to prepare."

However, due to high job pressure and low salary, he decided to quit and since 2020, under the banner 'Engineer Ka Idli Dosa', Rao has been selling Idli and Dosa in the Bargolai area of Margherita subdivision.

This situation mirrors the current unemployment crisis in the country, which has seen a surge despite promises of job creation made by Narendra Modi ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
