BTC budget 2025-26 tabled: Rs 843 crore proposal draws mixed reactions from house

The Budget Session of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) began on Wednesday at the Legislative Council building in Kokrajhar, with BTC Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro presenting a ₹843 crore budget for the financial year 2025-26, covering 40 departments.

Chaired by BTC Speaker Katiram Boro, the session will continue Thursday, when the budget is expected to be passed after discussions.

The Transformation Department received the highest proposed allocation of ₹126.26 crore, followed by the Education Department with ₹105.05 crore and the Department of Welfare for Plain Tribes and Backward Classes with ₹98.63 crore.

BTC Government Spokesperson Gautam Das described the budget as “beautiful and progressive,” while Opposition Leader MCLA Derhasat Basumatary expressed dissatisfaction, claiming it lacked concrete focus on the welfare of the people of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

The debate over the budget is set to intensify as both the ruling and opposition members prepare for a crucial discussion on Thursday.
