Congress used to losing, Rahul Gandhi may set world record in 2026: Assam deputy speaker

In a sharp attack on the Congress party ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, Assam Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Dr. Numal Momin said the Congress is “accustomed to defeat in every election,” and predicted that Rahul Gandhi may “set a world record for losing elections” in the coming polls.

“The elections in 2026 will be held in five states — Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. And once again, Congress will face defeat. Due to Rahul Gandhi, the Congress is losing elections one after the other,” Momin told reporters.

His remarks come amid renewed political activity in Assam, where the BJP-led government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is gearing up for a third consecutive term. Momin, a senior BJP leader from the state, said people have repeatedly rejected Congress because of its “leadership crisis and outdated politics.”

The Congress is yet to respond to the remarks, but the party has been holding strategy meetings to regroup in states like Assam and West Bengal, where it faces stiff competition from regional parties and the BJP.
