Development of Northeast fast-tracked under PM Modi’s leadership: Assam BJP chief

Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia said that the pace of development across the Northeast, including Assam, has accelerated significantly under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the past 11 years.

Speaking during Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s visit to the Assam BJP headquarters in Guwahati, Saikia said the region has witnessed a new era of growth and connectivity driven by the Prime Minister’s vision for inclusive national development. “Under the able guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the development of the entire Northeast, including Assam, has been fast-tracked over the last 11 years,” he said.

The Finance Minister, accompanied by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, interacted with party workers and participated in a mass recital of ‘Vande Mataram’ to mark the 150th anniversary of the national song.

Saikia lauded Sitharaman’s leadership as Union Finance Minister, noting that she has set a record by presenting the national budget eight consecutive times in Parliament. “She has worked tirelessly to fulfil the Prime Minister’s vision of strengthening India’s economy and ensuring balanced regional development,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Sitharaman inaugurated key infrastructure projects in Guwahati, including the Gateway of Guwahati (Terminal and Jetty) and the Brahmaputra Riverfront Development Project – Sati Radhika Shanti Udyan, developed along the stretch between the new Kamrup (Metro) DC Office and Kachari Ghat.

The Finance Minister’s visit, coupled with the inauguration of major riverfront projects, symbolised the Centre’s continued focus on boosting connectivity, tourism, and sustainable infrastructure in Assam and the broader Northeastern region.
