Dibrugarh residents welcome development push as Amit Shah to inaugurate key projects

Local residents of Dibrugarh have expressed happiness over the ongoing development works in the district, raising hopes for further growth as Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for major infrastructure projects on January 30.

 

During his visit, Shah will inaugurate Phase I of the Khanikar Stadium at around 10:30 am, a project aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure in Upper Assam. On the same occasion, he will also lay the foundation stone of the second Assam Legislative Assembly complex in Dibrugarh town, a project estimated to cost ₹284 crore.

 

The Home Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the Wildlife Research Institute, a key initiative expected to bolster scientific research, wildlife conservation and the protection of Assam’s rich biodiversity.

State government officials said the new Assembly complex is being envisioned as a modern legislative facility equipped with advanced amenities, marking a significant step towards strengthening Assam’s legislative infrastructure outside Dispur.

Earlier, Shah is scheduled to arrive at Dibrugarh airport in the evening and spend the night at Manohari Resort in the Upper Assam district. During his visit, he is also expected to meet senior BJP leaders and hold discussions on poll strategies ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.

Residents said the projects have generated optimism and confidence in the present government, viewing the initiatives as a catalyst for development and employment in the region.
