FIR filed over alleged defacement of Assamese signage in Kokrajhar, conspiracy alleged
A first information report (FIR) has been lodged at Moran Police Station over the alleged defacement of Assamese text on a public signboard in Kokrajhar, an incident that has sparked strong reactions among Assamese language supporters.
According to the complaint, unidentified miscreants allegedly smeared black paint over the Assamese portion of a signboard located on G.D. Road in Kokrajhar on July 5, an act described by the complainant as an insult to the Assamese language.
The FIR was filed by Devajit Baruah, who alleged that the incident was part of a larger conspiracy against the government. He also submitted video footage purportedly showing the accused defacing the signboard as evidence to the police.

Baruah has demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and called for strict legal action against them. He warned that failure to take prompt action could trigger widespread protests in the future.
The incident has reportedly triggered outrage among sections of Assamese language activists and residents, who have condemned the alleged defacement and demanded a thorough investigation.
Police have not yet issued an official statement on the case or confirmed whether any arrests have been made.
