A tragic road accident occurred at the Lanka-Garmapani stretch on National Highway 29, under the Umrangso police station in Dima Hasao district, resulting in the immediate death of two people and injuries to four others.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon when a clinker-carrying trailer bearing registration number BR 24 GC 8508, heading towards Lanka, lost control while overtaking another trailer.
In the process, it collided with a high-speed clinker trailer BR 05 GD 3246 coming from behind, which subsequently struck a motorcycle (AS 08 A 6750), a scooter (AS 08 8334), and a Bolero pickup (AS 02 DC 2523) parked by the roadside.
The accident claimed the lives of Bishwajit Ingti (22), a scooter rider and resident of 14 km Umrangso, while the identity of the second deceased is yet to be confirmed.

The injured include Chewali Raja (50) from 13 km Umrangso, Bitto Das from 14 km, Joidhan Rava from 16 km, and Suroop Panika (26) from Diphu.
The police reached the accident site promptly and transferred the injured to Umrangso Hospital for treatment.
Locals noted that the Lanka-Garmapani stretch of NH-29 has become accident-prone, with frequent mishaps occurring due to high-speed clinker trailers and trucks from Dalmia Cement Company.
Over the years, several people have lost their lives on this stretch because of such incidents.
