Continuous rainfall in neighbouring Nagaland has led to the overflowing of the Dhansiri, Ghiladhari, Makrong and Kalia rivers, inundating several villages in Assam’s Golaghat district.
Among the worst-affected are Mouthgaon and Rajanakhat villages, where floodwaters have submerged homes and farmlands, displacing hundreds of residents.
Locals are reeling under the impact, with many alleging that no official aid or rescue teams have reached them so far. “All the houses here have been submerged in water. No one has come to see the situation here. There are so many children here, but no one has come to inquire about anyone,” said Bipin Bora, a resident of Mouthgaon village. “The children have been kept in a makeshift bamboo building on top of houses,” he added.

Another resident, Jyoti Bora Das, echoed the distress: “It has been four or five days... Many houses have been submerged here. Everyone's farms have been submerged.”
While district authorities have yet to issue a formal statement, locals are calling for urgent relief and rescue measures to address the worsening humanitarian crisis. The situation remains tense, with more rainfall forecast in the coming days.
