Himanta Biswa Sarma: Other Northeastern states' outcomes to not influence Assam

Ahead of the much-anticipated Advantage Assam 2.0 investment summit, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the media, emphasizing Assam’s distinct identity and economic trajectory within the Northeast region.

Speaking on the state’s approach to foreign engagements, the Chief Minister stated, “I have asked all the embassies to treat Assam in isolation from other Northeastern states because we cannot be influenced by the outcomes of other Northeastern states.” 

The statement underscores Assam’s independent investment strategy and its focus on securing state-specific global partnerships.

Responding to queries regarding travel advisories related to the Northeastern states and any coordination efforts by his office, CM Sarma clarified, “My sole focus is on Assam. Under a federal setup, I cannot represent other Northeastern states, nor do I have the authority to coordinate on their behalf. Such responsibilities lie with the Central Government. The CM of Assam has no coordination role with other Northeastern states.”

The Advantage Assam 2.0 summit aims to attract significant domestic and foreign investments to propel Assam’s economic growth. 

With the state government’s ambitious target of reaching a Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of $143 billion by 2030, the event is expected to play a crucial role in showcasing Assam’s industrial potential and infrastructure development initiatives.

Observers note that CM Sarma’s emphasis on Assam’s distinct approach aligns with his government’s broader vision of positioning the state as a key economic hub in Eastern India. 

The summit is expected to witness participation from major business leaders, investors, and policy stakeholders, reinforcing Assam’s growing stature in India’s economic landscape.
