On the occasion of Bohag Bihu, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi visited Reetam Singh at the Morigaon District Jail and expressed concern over what he termed as a pattern of political harassment by the BJP government in Assam.
Speaking to the media, Gogoi alleged that the BJP government has been filing one case after another against Reetam Singh simply for raising his voice against injustice.
“The BJP government is targeting him because he dared to speak out,” Gogoi said, calling the repeated legal action a “clear example of political vendetta.”
He criticized the current state of democracy in Assam, stating, “Today, people are afraid to speak out against the BJP government. Leaders like Himanta Biswa Sarma, Jayanta Mallabaruah, Pijush Hazarika, and Manab Deka are trying to keep the people of Assam in a cage of fear. But we are committed to breaking that fear.”

On being asked about the Panchayat elections, Gogoi acknowledged that Congress workers are working hard and will continue to do so. He addressed concerns over allegations against party leadership during the poll preparations, stating, “We are taking every complaint seriously. All written grievances will be submitted to the AICC high command. These issues will be discussed within the party and resolved accordingly.”
He added that while it may not be appropriate to make all internal matters public, each complaint is being given due attention.
Gogoi's visit to Reetam Singh and his strong statements have added momentum to the Congress’s campaign in Assam, especially as political temperatures rise ahead of the Panchayat polls.
