Himanta hints at fresh eviction in Upper Assam, begins Sadiya visit with Rs 9 crore heritage project

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday signalled the launch of a new phase of eviction drives in Upper Assam, starting from Golaghat, as part of the government's ongoing push to free encroached lands across the state.

Speaking during his visit to the historic Burha Burhi Than project in Sadiya, the Chief Minister said that operations are already underway in Margherita and will continue systematically to make all such land encroachment-free.

“We have also learned that many encroachers have settled in Margherita due to the availability of free land. However, we cannot carry out all evictions at once, as every operation requires a minimum timeframe of three months. Therefore, we are proceeding on a priority basis. One day, we will be able to reclaim all the encroached land.”

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Ministers Bimal Borah, Rupesh Gowala, and MLAs Bolin Chetia, Suren Phukan, Taranga Gogoi, and Sanjay Kishan.
