Himanta sees ‘conspiracy’ in unified CBI demands over Zubeen’s death probe

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has raised questions over what he described as “coordinated” calls by multiple leaders for a central agency to investigate the death of cultural icon Zubeen Garg.

In a Facebook Live session, Sarma referred to demands by event manager Shyamkanu Mahanta, Congress leader Debabrata Saikia, and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi for the case to be handed over to the CBI, claiming all three have expressed a lack of trust in the Assam Police and the state government’s Special Investigation Team (SIT).

“Of late, Shyamkanu Mahanta, INCAssam and Akhil Gogoi are all making the same demand — that they don’t trust Assam Police and a central agency must probe the demise of beloved Zubeen. Is it a coincidence that all these characters are speaking in one voice?” Sarma asked.

He added that while anyone has the right to approach the Supreme Court or seek justice online, the coordinated timing of these demands raises questions. “Sometimes it is a coincidence, sometimes it is deliberate,” he said.

Sarma’s remarks come amid growing political and public scrutiny of the high-profile case, with multiple parties calling for an impartial investigation into Garg’s death in Singapore.
