Jhumoir gets a boost: Assam CM announces Rs 25,000 aid for participants, tea garden cultural clubs

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday reviewed the ongoing preparations at Sarusajai Stadium for the grand cultural event ‘Jhumoir Binandini’, an initiative aimed at celebrating Assam’s rich cultural heritage, particularly the vibrant Jhumoir dance of the tea tribe community.

During his address to the media following the review, CM Sarma made a significant announcement regarding financial assistance for the participants and tea gardens involved in the event.

He stated that each participant of ‘Jhumoir Binandini’ would receive Rs 25,000 as a token of encouragement. Additionally, every tea garden in Assam will be granted Rs 25,000 to establish Jhumoir-based Cultural Clubs, aimed at preserving and promoting the traditional dance form.

Apart from discussing the cultural initiative, Sarma also underlined the significance of the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, scheduled for February 24-25, 2025.

The ‘Jhumoir Binandini’ event, which aims to be a large-scale celebration of Assam’s tea tribe culture, has already garnered widespread anticipation. With government support, it is expected to not only promote Jhumoir but also create sustainable avenues for cultural preservation and economic upliftment within tea garden communities.

The Assam government’s move to provide direct financial aid to both participants and tea gardens reinforces its commitment to supporting indigenous art forms while simultaneously fostering community development.
