The arrests of Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, both accused in connection with the death of singer Zubeen Garg, have triggered widespread reactions across Assam, with family members, political leaders, and fans expressing hope that justice will be delivered.
Garima Saikia Garg, Zubeen’s wife, also reacted emotionally, urging fans and admirers to remain calm. “Now the law has taken its shape. They are proceeding in their own way. I hope the result will come soon and we will get justice. I have deep faith in the legal system,” she said. She further appealed to supporters, “I request Zubeen’s admirers with folded hands to let the law do its work. If unrest and disorder continue, where will Zubeen’s ideals remain?”
Zubeen’s sister, Palme Borthakur, welcomed the arrests, saying, “It’s good, the investigation is going in the right direction. The police and administration are working very hard, and we trust them. We know we will get justice. The voice of the people must be heard, then justice will prevail. Those who were around Zubeen at the time of the incident had a responsibility to bring him home safely, but they neglected it. They should be punished.”

Both have now been placed in 14-day custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which will conduct detailed questioning and gather evidence in the case.
The arrests and subsequent custody mark a significant development in the high-profile case, offering a measure of reassurance to grieving fans and family members who have been seeking justice since Zubeen Garg’s untimely death.
