Neglected duty, must be punished: Zubeen’s sister on arrests of Shyamkanu and Siddharth

Zubeen Garg’s sister, Palme Borthakur, has welcomed the arrest of Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, expressing hope that the investigation is moving in the right direction. 

Speaking to India TodayNE Borthakur said, “It’s good, the investigation is going in the right direction. The police and the administration are working very hard, and we trust them. We know we will get justice. The voice of the people must be heard for justice to prevail.”

She added, “It was the responsibility of those around Zubeen during the incident to bring him home safely. But they were on duty and neglected their duty. They should be punished.”

Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, both accused in connection with the singer’s death, were placed under 14-day custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The duo was earlier produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) at his residence in Alpana Apartment, Geetanagar, Guwahati, amid tight security. Following the hearing, the CJM sanctioned their remand, allowing the SIT to take them into custody for interrogation and further investigation.

The 14-day custody is expected to allow the SIT to conduct detailed questioning, gather evidence, and reconstruct the events leading to Zubeen Garg’s death, as public attention remains high on this high-profile case.
