My vehicle was attacked in a district where Himanta Biswa Sarma's brother is SP: Jairam Ramesh

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh asserted that his vehicle was attacked on January 21 in a district where Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's brother serves as the Superintendent of Police.

As per reports, Jairam Ramesh's vehicle was subjected to an alleged attack in Jamugurihat, located in the Sonitpur district of Assam. 

The incident occurred amidst the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, a political campaign led by the Congress party. 

Ramesh reported that the assault on his vehicle was carried out by what he described as an "unruly crowd." 

In a statement, Ramesh revealed a concerning detail that the Superintendent of Police (SP) for the Sonitpur district, Susanta Biswa Sarma, where the alleged attack took place is none other than the younger brother of Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Congress General Secretary in-charge Communications, Jairam Ramesh said, "We are a democratic country...Everyone can raise their flags and voices but keep forth their views peacefully and democratically. There is no need for violence. My vehicle was attacked yesterday in a district whose SP is the younger brother of the Chief Minister. What is the law and order situation here?..."

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered the police to enquire into the alleged attack on the car of Congress leader Jairam Ramesh in the state's Sonitpur district. 

Taking to social media platform X, the Assam CM directed Assam Police DGP GP Singh to register a case and enquire into the allegations. 

"Pl register a case and enquire into the allegations @gpsinghips @DGPAssamPolice," said CM Sarma as he shared Jairam Ramesh's X post where he made the allegations.
