Nepali girl appeals Assam CM for justice over alleged assault, video goes viral

A viral video featuring a Nepali girl appealing for justice has surfaced, in which she pleads with the Chief Minister of Assam to take action against those who attempted to harass and assault her simply because she sported short hair and had a more masculine appearance.

In the shared video, the girl recounts her ordeal, expressing how she was verbally and physically harassed by individuals from her neighborhood in Mariani, Assam, merely for taking a stroll at night while being a girl with short hair. She further reveals distressing details, stating that officers at the local police station mocked her attire and appearance, while the accused, who allegedly had connections with the police, were treated with hospitality. Despite waiting for three hours, she received no justice.

The victim describes the harrowing extent of the harassment, including being pressured to publicly prove her gender and having her shirt forcefully removed, exposing part of her chest. She endured racial slurs, physical assaults, and was pushed to the brink of contemplating suicide that very night. She questions what fault of hers warranted such torment, pondering if exercising her freedom led to such brutal treatment.

Her plea for justice is impassioned, emphasizing the necessity to prevent such atrocities from befalling another girl. She implores the honorable Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and other officials to intervene and ensure justice is served.
