In a fiery address during a massive rally in Kokrajhar, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared that the Congress has no presence in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), provocatively stating, “Congress belongs in Pakistan.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a five-day tour of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) under the ambitious “Mission BTR” initiative, aimed at accelerating development and strengthening party support ahead of the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.
On Monday, the Chief Minister addressed a massive rally of party workers at Green Field in Kokrajhar city, the headquarters of BTR. The event marked a key moment in the BJP’s outreach to voters in the region, as the party intensifies preparations for both the BTC elections and the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly elections.
In his address, CM Sarma highlighted the achievements of the BJP-led government, particularly in restoring peace in the region. “After the BTR peace accord, there have been no encounters, no bomb blasts. Peace has returned to BTR, and this has been possible solely due to the efforts of the BJP government,” he said.
He stated that while the past five years were dedicated to establishing peace, the coming five years would focus on ensuring all-round development for every community in the region. “We are not here to contest elections to lose. We are here to win — for peace, for development, and for the welfare of the people of BTR,” he declared to a cheering crowd.

CM Sarma reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to working at the grassroots level, starting with the BTC elections and moving toward a strong campaign for the 2026 Assembly elections. “After the BTC elections, we will begin full preparations for the Assembly elections. Our goal is clear — we must win in BTR and across Assam to form the government again,” he added.
The rally was attended by State BJP President Dilip Saikia, Minister Ashok Singhal, along with several BTC Executive Members (EMs), MLAs, and senior BJP leaders — underlining the party’s high-level focus on the region.
Taking a swipe at the opposition, Sarma remarked, “There is no Congress here. Congress belongs in Pakistan.” His statement was met with loud applause, reflecting the charged political atmosphere as election season nears.
Following the rally, the Chief Minister chaired a review meeting at the District Commissioner’s conference hall to assess the implementation of various government schemes in the district.
With “Mission BTR,” the BJP is aiming to consolidate its political base while pushing forward its development-driven agenda in the region — positioning itself as the primary force for stability and progress in BTR.
