Sema Naga people object to Assam Government's decision to rehabilitate displaced people of Laika Dadhia to Paharpur

The Sema Naga people of Paharpur area under Margherita Constituency of Tinsukia district, Assam have raised strong objection to Assam Government's decision to rehabilitate displaced people of Laika Dadhia to Paharpur.

Raising objections, Sema Naga leader of Paharpur area Khekoto Sema, threatened to launch a strong protest alleging bloodshed if Assam Government rehabilitate the people of Laika Dadhia of Tinsukia district.

"Assam Government of lately announced to rehabilitate the flood displaced people of Laika Dadhia to Paharpur area. We are not against the decision. We do want the people to be rehabilitated but not in our village or Tirap area. We cannot accept that the people be rehabilitated to our ancestral place. If need arises we are ready for bloodshed but wont sacrifice our lands. We have been protesting earlier and even blocked roads regarding the issue and will protest again if need arises. We have been residing here since 1945 when the Second World War started. We are the aboriginal. The forest department has been putting immense pressure on us. We have not received any legal notice nor any discussion being held with us in this regard", said Sema Naga leader of Paharpur area while talking to the media.

It may be mentioned here that the state forest department had issued a circular regarding rehabilitation of Laika Dadhia people at Paharpur for which Sema naga aboriginal tribes residing at Paharpur area are in terror fearing losing their ancestral lands.
