Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan arrived at Guwahati Airport last night, kicking off a crucial four-day visit to the Northeast.
His tour will cover Assam, Nagaland, and Mizoram, with a focus on flagship welfare schemes including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
Speaking to the media, Assam Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass said, “Shivraj Singh Chouhan has come for a 4-day visit and will be attending programs across the entire Northeast. During this time, there is a strong possibility of progress on the allocation of houses left under the PM Awas Yojna.”

According to Dass, Assam has already completed the construction of over 25 lakh houses under PMAY, while 3.8 lakh units remain to be sanctioned. “A survey is currently underway, and under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, we are working actively to ensure that the remaining beneficiaries receive their houses,” he added.
Minister Chouhan’s visit is seen as a significant step toward closing the implementation gap in rural housing across the region. His itinerary is expected to include review meetings, beneficiary interactions, and field visits to PMAY project sites.
The Centre's focus on the Northeast continues to grow, with infrastructure and social welfare schemes gaining momentum ahead of key electoral cycles.
