Shoot-at-sight order to remain in force in Dhubri till Durga Puja: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on August 26 said that the “shoot at sight” order imposed in Dhubri will continue to remain in effect until the conclusion of Durga Puja celebrations, as a precautionary measure to maintain peace and security in the district.

Responding to a media query on the law-and-order situation, Sarma clarified that there is currently no unrest in Dhubri and no fresh incidents of violence have been reported. However, he stressed that the directive has not been withdrawn and will stay in force to deter any attempt at disturbing communal harmony.

“Anyone attempting to create unrest in Dhubri will face severe consequences. Here, people of Sanatan Dharma are a minority, and their protection from extremists is our priority,” the Chief Minister said.

Sarma reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding peace during the upcoming Durga Puja festivities, assuring that strict action would be taken against those trying to disrupt the situation.
