Silchar youth arrested for ‘love jihad’ using fake identity

Silchar police arrested a youth identified as Mainur Islam from Ashram Road, Tapoban Nagar, on charges of impersonation and alleged “love jihad.”

Mainur, a resident of Murshidabad district in West Bengal, is accused of creating a fake identity using forged voter ID and Aadhaar cards under the name Sojal Das, a Hindu, in order to marry a Hindu woman.

During a raid at his residence, police recovered documents that revealed his actual identity, confirming the allegations of fraud. Both Mainur and the woman were detained by Silchar Sadar Police for questioning.

Locals, however, claimed that the incident may not be limited to a fake marriage under false identity but could be part of a larger racket involving document forgery.

They demanded a thorough investigation to identify all individuals and groups connected to the case and ensure strict legal action.

Police said further investigation is underway to verify the extent of the racket and the involvement of other accomplices.
