UPPL likely to end alliance with BJP by December ahead of Assam Assembly polls

The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) is likely to sever its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by December, ahead of the next Assam Assembly elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Kokrajhar on Wednesday, UPPL General Secretary Raju Kumar Narzary said that while no final decision has been made yet, the party leadership will take a call on the alliance during its Triennial Conference in December.

“As of now, the UPPL continues to remain in alliance with the NDA both at the state and central levels,” Narzary said, adding that discussions on the party’s future course of action are underway.

He further informed that a final decision on the alliance will be taken during the UPPL Triennial Conference in December, where the party leadership will deliberate on the issue in detail.

Narzary also highlighted that the party’s immediate focus is on strengthening its organisational base across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) ahead of the polls. As part of this initiative, the UPPL plans to organise bike rallies in every Assembly Constituency within the BTR to mobilise grassroots workers and boost public outreach.

Earlier, the UPPL had been governing the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in alliance with the BJP since 2020; however, in 2025, the Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF swept 28 of the 40 seats to form the new council government after winning the latest elections.
