Watch: Wild rhino strays into residential area in Assam's Majuli

Residents of Majuli's Charigharia area found themselves in a state of terror as a wild rhinoceros was spotted roaming freely near Namoni, triggering widespread panic among locals.

The alarming incident unfolded as the rhino's presence caused distress among residents  leading to heightened fear and anxiety in the community. In response to the commotion stirred by the inhabitants the rhino hastily sought refuge in a nearby village pond, further adding to the confusion and alarm.

With the looming threat of a potential attack or untoward incident residents expressed grave concerns about their safety, fearing the unpredictable behavior of the rhino. The unsettling presence of the wild animal has left the community on edge, with the constant apprehension of imminent danger pervading the atmosphere.

Reports indicate that, on average, four rhinos freely roam the vicinity of Majuli, posing a persistent challenge to the residents and authorities alike. Despite efforts by the Forest Department to address the situation and mitigate potential risks, including attempts to chase the rhino away the presence of the wild animal continues to unsettle the community.

Earlier, on February 19, tragedy struck Bhakat Chapori when one person lost their life, highlighting the severity of the situation and the urgent need for effective measures to ensure the safety and security of the residents.
