Breaking: Akshay Kumar tests positive for coronavirus

Mumbai: Bollywood's khiladi Akshay Kumar hasb become the latest high-profile celebrity to recently test positive for the novel coronavirus, joining the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Alia Bhatt, Aamir Khan, among others. 

Akshay Kumar conveyed the message through his social media platforms.

Kumar in his message informed that he has tested positive for the virus earlier in the morning today and has isolated himself by following all the protocols. "I'm under home quarantine and have sought necessary medical care", the message further read.

The actor urged all those who have come in contact with him to get tested for the virus.

This comes against the backdrop of a massive surge in the cases in Mumbai, which is reporting a record number of infections amid a new wave.

Mumbai on March 2 reported more than 9,000 daily coronavirus cases, which is the Maharashtra capital's highest ever single-day spike. It also logged 27 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra has been contributing around 60 per cent of the country's total daily cases for the last few weeks.
