Sikkim's football legend Bhaichung Bhutia was on Monday conferred the 'Indian Achievers Award' 2019. Bhaichung was handed the award by Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal in national capital New Delhi for his immense contribution to the sport.

Indian football has made great strides in the recent past, and Bhaichung has arguably been at the forefront to transform India into an international footballing powerhouse. Bhutia was also lauded for his initiative in opening the Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools from where 8 players have gone on to represent the Indian team in the different age groups, while 14 boys are playing for ISL.
It may be mentioned here that the Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools is a youth development initiative by Bhaichung Bhutia, the former Indian team skipper, in association with Football By Carlos Queiroz, the Portuguese football academy by Carlos Queiroz.
Bhaichung, addressing the gathering, stated: "Thank you...to the selection committee for recognizing my work and of Indian Football Foundation over the years. BBFS is the biggest grassroot football school all over the Indian subcontinent. I'm so pleased that the country is appreciating and acknowledging the sport...."

The Award show was organized by Power Corridors and Bollywood stars Shilpa Shetty and Suresh Oberoi were also present and were awarded the 'Champion of Change' award.
