India might see 1750 daily COVID-19 deaths by the first week of June: ReportsCOVID-19

NEW DELHI: According to a report by India Task Force members for the Lancet COVID-19 Commission, India may see 1750 coronavirus-related fatalities per day by the first week of June, increasing to approximately 2320 by the end of the month.

According to national media, the paper, titled "Managing India's Second COVID-19 Wave: Urgent Measures," highlights the most important aspects of the pandemic's second wave.

The study also suggests actions that can be taken right now to help slow the spread of infection.

According to the report, the second wave has so far been more geographically clustered. The number of districts that make up the top half of the population has decreased from over 40 at the time of the first peak to fewer than 20 now.

Evidently, during the first wave of COVID-19 cases in August-September last year, the number of districts contributing to 75 % of COVID-19 cases was 60-100, while during the second wave, it was about 20-40 districts.

From February to April, the rise from 10,000 to 80,000 new cases every day took less than 40 days, while, It was 83 days in September 2020.

Since more COVID-19 cases are asymptomatic or slightly symptomatic, hospitalisation and mortality rates are poor.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, the average Case Fatality Ratio (CFR) has been around 1.3 percent. The CFR is 0.87 % among patients who have been infected with the virus since the beginning of 2021. CFR tends to be lower in the second wave, at least for the time being.
