NEW DELHI: India has reported 59,118 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours taking the tally to 11,846,652.
India has the 7th highest number of active cases globally.
Over 160,983 people had died so far due to the infection.
The total number of active cases in the country is now 4,21,066, exceeding the 4,000 mark.
In the last 24 hours, 32,987 people have recovered from the outbreak, bringing the overall number of recoveries to 1,12,64,637.

Since COVID-19 broke out in the nation, this is the fastest one-lakh increase in the tally.
On the other hand, Maharashtra registered the highest single-day spike of 35,952 cases, while Mumbai also reported the highest daily count of 5,504 cases.
Meanwhile, Delhi has registered over 1,500 daily cases for the first time in the year.
Maharashtra (2,564,881), Karnataka (975,955), Kerala (1,109,908), Andhra Pradesh (895,121), and Tamil Nadu (871,440) are among the five most affected area.

Total 23,75,03,882 samples had been screened as of March 24, with 10,65,021 samples tested on Wednesday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
So far, 5,55,04,440 anti-COVID shots have been administered across the world. On March 23, the five-crore mark in vaccination was achieved.
