India reports 94,052 fresh COVID cases; 6,148 deaths

NEW DELHI: India recorded 94,052 new infections and 6,148 new fatalities today, bringing the total number of confirmed illnesses to 29,183,121 and deaths to 359,676, According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The daily COVID-19 cases in India stayed below 100,000 today but the daily death record showed a dramatic increase.

The state health department increased the number of COVID-19 deaths in Bihar dramatically upwards on Wednesday putting the total number of deaths caused by the epidemic at 9,429.

According to the department, which had indicated that the number of deaths was under 5,500 until the previous day, 3,951 dead have been added to the total after verification.

Tamil Nadu leads the state list with 17,321 cases reported in the last 24 hours. Kerala comes in second with 15,204 new infections. Maharashtra has recorded a total of 10,989 cases. Karnataka has 10,959 cases, while Andhra Pradesh has 8,766. West Bengal recorded 5,384 new cases, while Delhi recorded 337 new cases.

Maharashtra (5,863,880), Karnataka (2,728,248), Kerala (2,673,166), Tamil Nadu (2,292,025), Andhra Pradesh (1,779,773), are the five most affected states by total cases.
