Manipur Police arrested three persons for allegedly carrying a claymore IED with a plan of triggering it at Imphal on Monday.
As per police, the three persons were overground workers of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). They also recovered one remote control, one transmitter, few batteries, one detonator, one 9mm bullet and one mobile handset from the persons.
The items were recovered based on a specific input by the Manipur Police. Based on the input, a raid was conducted at the store room of fuel station in Imphal’s Khurai Telepati. In the follow up action two persons including a woman were arrested by the police.

Imphal West SP K Meghachandra Singh said that the persons were apprehended by the police commandos at a check post in the Singjamei parking today. The check post was set based on the specific information about the movement of PLA associates.
The suspected persons have been identified as Samukcham Mobi Singh of Khagempali and Lairenlakpam Ibemcha Devi of Mongjam. While checking their vehicles, the batteries connected in series were found.
On spot interrogation they disclosed that the batteries which are usually used in IEDs were handed over to them by a PLA associate and they were supposed to deliver it to Lourembam Bumeshwor of Khurai Thangjam Leikai, Imphal East district.

The police commando team based on their disclosure reached Bhumeshwor’s resident and detained him. On being interrogated, he disclosed that the IED was supposed to be planted at Telepati area. The police said that the persons also disclosed that had several other involvements in the PLA activities in the state in the past as well.
The investigation regarding the entire incident has been initiated and further actions are being taken as per procedures. The police are also checking further possibilities of other such people being involved.
