Manipur Police Seizes Narcotics Worth Rs. 2 Cr

Jiribam, September 8, 2019:

The Manipur Police has seized a huge consignment of drugs on Saturday. Following reliable input about tracking of illegal items, along Jiribam to Imphal en route, a team of district police under the direct supervision of L Khogen Singh, consisting teams of anti-drugs cell and Jiribam Police Station led by ASI A. Krishna Sharma and SI T Rameshwor Singh, carried out frisking and checking at different locations from the past two days.

On September 6, at 7:30 pm, a Ashok Leyland truck bearing registration no. AS-01-JC-2823 was searched and three cartons were discovered hidden in the truck. Thereafter, on opening the boxes, a large number of Tramadol Hydrochloride capsules (Rimdol 50), numbering 90,990 capsules, contained in 9,099 strips weighing 4.549 kilos were detected, which have declared under the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by the Government.

A certain Nongsaibam Raees alias Yaima, a resident of Imphal East district, was arrested by the authorities for possession of the banned substances. It was discovered that the drugs were loaded from Byrnihat, Meghalaya, and were being transported to Myanmar via Moreh. They were to be sold for Rs. 225 per capsule. The total value of the seized contraband would be Rs. 2,04,72,750.

A case under FIR no. 30(09)2019 under Section 21(C) ND&PS Act has been registered at Jiribam Police Station for investigation.
